“RIVER” was a complicated print to create with 5 woodblocks to perfect & align.

The bulk of the “RIVER” edition is SOLD OUT. Just a few copies remaining!

Printing the limited edition of “RIVER”.

5 woodblocks (hand-drawn, hand-carved) print to Tan BFK paper to make the print.

5 woodblocks were drawn & carved in low relief to create the new “RIVER” woodcut print.

Each block holds different information; each is rolled with a different color.

The 5 blocks stamp to paper in thin ink layers to build the finished “RIVER” woodcut print on paper.

You can see some of the block-making process in the photos below:

5th block (ABOVE), adds metallic gold shine to the water’s constellation.

3rd woodblock for “RIVER” adds a milky blue to the flowing waters. (Block before carving BELOW.)

RIVER” will be a starry, nocturnal scene printed to Tan BFK paper.

The blue block (being drawn in these photos) adds shadow accents & the night sky.

The finished carving of the key/detail block for the “RIVER” woodcut.

Photos below were taken during carving of the key block, which holds all the main detail.

You can see my drawn black lines alongside the brighter carved marks

from the knife as the surface of the block is slowly whittled away in low relief.

All of my woodcuts begin as original pen drawings like this, made directly to woodblocks.
